U.S. Department of Education manages the Education for Homeless Children and Youth grants for state and local activities. These were established by the McKinney Act of 1987 and are administered by the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE). Among other things, the program supports an Office for Coordination of Education of Homeless Children and Youth in each state, which gathers comprehensive information about homeless children and youth and barriers to their regular attendance at school. NSCH is an advocacy and information/referral organization which helps homeless individuals and families throughout Long Island.
